I’m Bi! Are you PC or Mac?
By Buck on Aug 13, 2008 in Buck Cam
Ok so you know my latest computer woes! Here is me ranting! Everything is fine now! I guess part of me wishes I could get into Macs but I seem to be more of a windows girl!
Are you a PC or a MAC or like me…..BOTH!?
Can’t wait for live show tonight!!

anyways i’ve been a pc girl most of my life. it’s all i really know. but i’m seriously considering getting a macbook now because everyone keeps telling me that they’re a great investment. they’re sturdy and user-friendly and all that junk. so yeah, i may end up being a bi comp user too, hehe. cuz i don’t know how i can get rid of my buddy (that’s my computer’s name). i’ve had him for about 6 years now; he’s a senior citizen and a bit senile but i love him! lol. ok, now i sound like a crazy person. i’m gonna stop now.
love u buck!

I’ve worked with both. Can’t say I prefer one or the other but I have only owned a PC. Would love to own a mac, but then again I don’t have that type of money & neither does my mom lol.

I have a MacBook, I used to have HP PCs.
I love my Mac, but if you’re looking fora PC, I don’t think HPs are that great.
I had two die of a motherboard failure (like yours), and one of a dead HD.
There are loads of great companies that’ll build you your own, and that means if it fucks up, you can replace bits without having to worry about the warranty!
As for falling in love with your MacBook (Air?), give it time. I couldn’t use mine at first, but eventually I really got the hang of it. If you’re looking to try editing video, have a play with Final Cut Express - it’s a lot cheaper and it’s great if you’re not really going to have to do a load of really tough stuff.
Good luck.

mac?! idk I’m afraid of it ^^ i mean my ipod and itunes are making trouble so often. When sth is not working, I go insane - so mac would probably cause my death
…but all this apple stuff looks so awesome! so I’ll have to think about it again…

I work as a Network Administrator so I deal with both PC’s and Mac’s on quite a regular basis. While I don’t dislike macs, I have to say I much prefer the PC. Possibly because I’ve used it all my life, but primarily because I just feel so limited and restricted when using a mac. I need all my 3rd party apps that I know and love so much on my Windows!

This question is right up my alley. Maybe one day someone will figure out what my username actaully means. HA!
I am kinda like EricSes, although I don’t do the hands on technical work that often anymore… except for yesterday when I spent 2.5 hrs on the phone with MS Tech support trying to get a webserver/firewall to do pass-through authentication…anyways…
I have ALWAYS been a PC guy, although 5 months ago, at the suggestion of my boss, I got a MacBook Pro for home use. Now I am ready to give up my Dell notebook and ONLY have a Mac. I do use Parallels on my Macbook and have Vista loaded just so I can use software that only works on Windows.
So what does that make me…??? I do love my Mac!

I’ve never tried a Mac tho my teacher said “once you go Mac you never come back” he was crazy for his Mac. Until then I’m all PC.

If you got an iMac you wouldn’t need a tower because the hard drive is built into the screen (and the cost is equal to the MacBooks for the same amount of memory, equivalent processor, but a much bigger screen). But if you like your current editing software it would probably be hard to switch, and I’ve heard that the current version of iMovie isn’t as powerful as previous versions - that it’s been “dumbed down” a bit, so…you’re probably better off being Bi.
lando68 | Aug 13, 2008 | Reply
I have to say I am Bi! I love my PC for school and work, but the Mac is so much lighter and easier to carry around campus

The software I use in business won’t work for MAC unless I have to buy all new software that runs on MAC. Otherwise I would consider it.

I am a PC guy…I have worked with Macs and I like them, but PC’s are so much better in my opinion…I do not see a big enough of a difference between them that would make me wanna spend $2000 on a MacBook Pro when I am perfectly fine with my $700 Toshiba…Even though Windows [Mainly Vista] is problamatic, it works and flows better than the Mac software…
But hey-everyone has their opinions

PC, but only because it’s so dominant. my business partner has a MAC, which is always breaking down (seriously) or decifering my graphics files that I send her completely wrong. Really hard to share a .ppt between PC and MAC as each interprets fonts differently sometimes. OK enough nerdiness from me.

I’ve been raised on macs, so I don’t know how people even begin to function with PC’s.
And buck, also if you get a mac:
1. They last a lot longer and I’ve never had a computer crash on me in my entire 15 years of existence
2. They’re immune to most viruses and spyware and
3. You can get time machine so incase anything goes wrong you have everything backed up automatically.

Michael –
I am a Mac person, although I have used PCs. As for video editing Final Cut is really good and is quite powerful. I have Final Cut Studio on my Quad G5 that has dual monitors (lots of screen space). My wife has a 15 in MacBook Pro with Final Cut Express (cost less than $200). It took me a few weeks to switch from iMovie06 to Final Cut and I still have to occasionally watch a tutorial. BTW, someone mentioned that the current iMovie08 is dumbed down. Not actually true, it just does things for you automatically. It is more like a loss of control. Apple does allow you to download iMovie06 for free if you have iMovie08 installed. I would recommend either a 20 or 24 in iMac with Final Cut Express as a main editing machine. We only use my wife’s MacBook to edit in the field. When at home she uses my Mac to edit.
Something to think about is about 6 months ago I had my old G4 tower die (power supply failed). I was able to remove the drives and install them in inexpensive FireWire cases and hook them on a G5 iMac and I was up and running within a couple of hours. I had a friend who had a similar situation with one of his older Macs. Since he had been cloning his ‘boot’ drive to an external FireWire drive. He just took the cloned drive and put it on another Mac and set the startup to that drive and he was back in business. Again in a few hours.
I hope this is helpful.
Mike …

Deeptchr13 reply on August 17, 2008:
I totally agree with oldmikey’s explanations of the new iMovie. It’s totally worth downloading the the iMovie HD version form ~06 to use. I think the intent was for the new one to be a faster edit - like that you could have a simple movie otgethe rin just a few minutes (even if you’ never used iMovie before). For me though, the toruble is that it’s so different that I actually find it much mor edifficult because I think more like an iMovie HD user. The set up doesn’t make as much sense ot me and trying to grab portions of video to trim up feels really awkward for me with the new one.
Otherwise, I’m bi-platform but definitely prefer the general ease of video stuff on Mac. Has anyone tinkered with the fun video options in the new PhotoBooth in Leopard? I’ve been toying with that too and it seems like the greenscreen and funhouse mirror options would have great potential — then just drag those QuickTime into iMovie if you want ot jazz them up still more than that.
Cole

definitely PC. they’re a lot simpler to understand, programs like PCs better aaaand Macs have that weird time machine thing and i don’t think our world is ready to time travel yet lol!
but in all seriousness PCs are the way to go–way more affordable too! (most)

the iMac doesn’t have a tower. They are really nice, you should get one. There’s a student deal going on right now, if you buy an apple computer you get a free ipod touch… any ipod actually. You aren’t a student but you can pretend like you’re getting one for your niece or something! haha I’m cheap, I’d do it! Anyway Buck, I just watched a few of your vintage
videos on youchoob, I think I watched 4 or 5… and you made a Mean Girls reference in every one I watched! It got funnier every time. <3

Gotta go with Mac. I’m in love with my MacBook. It’s never crashed or gotten a virus, it’s so much more reliable than any PC. I find that the Mac just lets me get on with getting things done, while with Windows I’m endlessly weeding through prompts and errors and generally fighting to get it to do what I want (or having to stop what I’m doing to deal with yet another ‘urgent virus scanner update’ or ‘urgent Windows security update’).

Well, my family has always had a pc in the house. my dad hates macs and the perceived “stuck-up” attitude he senses from mac users. while i was still in high school, though, i used a mac every day. apparently mac gives discounts to schools. when i went to school, i bought myself a macbook (sadly 3 months before leopard was released =[…)
I love my computer. it does everything i need it to do. that includes being able to run windows. there are a few programs i have that need windows to run, so all i need to do is restart my comp in windows. there are programs that let you run windows within mac, but they’re like 100 dollars and i’m a bit pressed for cash.
i feel this is the best solution for people with the problem you’re having. all you need to do is buy one computer and the windows software.

Hey Michael, um i’m pretty sure you won’t be able to see this comment but if you buy an adapter for your Macbook, you can connect it to your 22 inch monitor. You’ll have dual screens! The Adapter is only 20 bucks and can be bought from any Apple Store or Apple Retailed seller
