OMG! I know! I was watching it last night and was totally thinking of you, and hoping you were watching it. Gymnastics are usually my fave thing to watch, although I really enjoy diving too.
This year is sweet - we have not one, but TWO athletes from my dinky town in ND who are trying out for the US Swimming Team for the Olympics. Crazy! Our whole town is super stoked about them making it, which they probably will. So, I am looking forward to the swimming events.
Happy Monday!

That sucks about Raj. I was rooting for him.
Right now diving is definitely my favorite. Especially the men. The dives are awesome, but I can’t stop staring at their abs! haha I love it.

Yeah the 96 US Womens Gymnastics win was the most exciting thing EVER!
I remember watching the whole build up to the Olympics and keeping track of their careers after (US and World Gymnasts).
Hasn’t been the same since and it’s ashame China’s so contraversial; cuz I’m not sure if I’ll be very interested in this Olympic cycle… Unless they invite Bjork back!
lol

I remember you mentioning the trials last week so this weekend I planted my ass in front of the TV and watched them all [thanks for reminding me about it]. I totally fell in love with Raj with all his zen stuff and he performed amazing and his parents were too cute… then he didn’t make it. I was actually pretty angry about it but then they interviewed him after the meeting and you could tell he was sad but he was also so chill about it. The team needs a guy like him… oh well… I can’t wait for the Olympics. When I was a kid like at least once a week I would ask my mom when the Olympics would be.. I couldn’t grasp the concept that it was every 2/4 years. Anyways… rambling comment, sorry

I new chellsie would make an amazing comeback!
Wisconsin Represent. I am so excited for august! I think the ladies will have a very strong team to go against china it’s going to be exciting!
OMG I was so sad Raj didn’t make it too. I understand because his form isn’t always there but, it made me sooo sad. I was kind of surprised after all the footage they showed of him on t.v and such. Plus his dad was sooo adorable. I think they should have picked him over Joe hagerty…even thought joe had won two events the rest of his scores were not so good.
Buck reply on June 23, 2008:
CHelsie was so solid! What events did Joe win?
Its so interesting how many factors make up the decision now!!

Went to some events of the 1984 Olympics when they were in Los Angeles. Track and field and volleyball. That was grand.
I always look forward to summer blockbuster movies. The kids love them and I become 10 years old again. 2008 has thus far been mediocre. Or maybe I’m old. Iron Man leads the pack, but looking forward to Dark Knight. Kids like Kung Fu Panda best, but liked them all so far. I AM too old.

I feel exactly the same about gymnastics…but unfortunatly i missed the the trials(but i did see the diving trials!). I did gymnastics for like 8 years, but realized i hated it. The new scoring makes me soooo mad, i have no idea what it means, its even more confusing than iceskating!! i love shawn johnson, she is so adorable! but i really hate those two brothers, they just seem like assholes…i don’t know am i overanalyzing? anyway, i am super excited that you are so excited about the olympics!!!!!

Nastia Liukin is my favorite gymnast of all time. Not only is she amazing, but she is attractive, and very personable. Send her a message on Myspace and she’ll most likely respond! I love when celebrities are personable! I’ll definitely be watching the Olympics this year, only to see how amazing Nastia does.

I ttly can’t wait! I love watching ppl do such amazing acts. Now poeple think the skinnyer the better. Look at these athletes and you will see what a body should look like. They are so fit and amazing. This year looks like it will be pretty interesting.

i’ll watch gymnastics, synchronized diving, and TRAMPOLINE!!!!!
yes, trampoline is not only a sport, and the best sport EVER.
i do it and even though its weird its awesome…
what do you think of NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK? like the music video for summertime.
i thought it was the backstreet boys/*n sync all over again (not a bad thing, just kinda over…) and the dancing could have been done by some twelve year old guys trying to be the backstreet boys in 2001. what are your thoughts?

I really liked it!! I talked about it in a a WTBS video last week!!

I am with you Buck. Love the Olympics. Actually, ‘stupid’ for the Olympics would be a more suitable characterization of myself. : ) As a former Rhythmic Gymnast from back in the late 80’s early 90’s (Ever watch RSG?), I get goosebumps watching any Olympic event. And I concede, I become very emotional to the point I could be a poster child for Kleenex with all my bawling for happiness. (I know, I am such a nerd. lol)
Moving on…
Also, no group of athletes for the U.S. have excited my anticipation as much as this group of women. Memmel was a goddess on Sunday. I am really crossing my fingers that Memmel will be one of the two for the AA finals. I think U.S. could finish 1 & 2.
Finally…
I detest the new scoring system. I could handle when they lowered start values and we were seeing a great score of 9.75. But this new system. Oy vey!
Ok…post too long to be interesting. Really looking forward to the Olympics as well as your take on them. Hugs and loves.

I love Gymnastics and Ice Skating espically at the Olympics, but the trials were SOOO hard to watch at the end, it seemed as if alot of the girls kept stepping out of bounds, so I had to change the channel. But I will definatly be watching your coverage over the next month!
Also I enjoy watching the Olympics, more so summer then winter, but in 2004 [astleast for me] it seemed like Michael Phelps was all anyone talked about. Then again I was 12 and my friends were all obsessed with him, but yeah, definatly looking forward to watching it this year.

I love the gymnastics trials as well!!!!!! I’m totally in love with Nastia Liukin! I hate Shawn Johnson so much! Nastia had been competing for 2 years before Shawn came. She had been winning almost everything there was to win, and then Shawn comes and everybody now says that Shawn is the best. Everybody completely forgot about Nastia then all they cared about is Shawn. And saying that Shawn is going to win the all - around at the Olympics! Nastia has just as good of a chance to win as Shawn does! I just don’t get what the bid deal about her is! Ahhhhh….. whatever! Ok, I’m definitely overreacting about this! On a new note, I watched the diving trials as well! It was the first time I’d ever seen any diving stuff, but I thought it was so cool!! And oh my gawd!! I’m sooooooooo mad thet Raj didn’t make the team! I don’t get why the put Justin Spring, and some other people on it! But they didn’t put Alexander Artemov (or whatever his name is) He was in the lead after the first day of trial!!!! I mean SERIOUSLY!!!! Ok this is getting too long!
peace out

im so glad Shawn won as it just showed she is the most consistant girl, really happy to see her working on her flexibility as it was the only thing letting her down. chellsie comeback came at the perfect time since we really need another good bars worker instead of just nastia.

I remember a few years back I watched gymnastics, and loved it, I missed it though, is it on again or just wait until the olympics? xoxo Liana
lchildre | Jun 24, 2008 | Reply
yeah, just saw another post, I used to love the ice skating, but now I don’t really know anyone on there, I used to watch it with ah, i can’t remember the names, but back in the day people, like scott hamilton, brian boitano, I think there was a Katerina, elvis someone, ok, it’s very frustrating not to have a memory, but you know who all I’m talking about. I loved it then.

Yay for reviewing Trials! You really should do more on gymnastics - my favourite sport ever! Glad you agree about the new code, it took me a long while to figure out what the heck 15.175 is supposed to mean. Also didn’t do much good for gymnastics - especially on floor, where waving your arms around randomly and striking a pose seemingly unrelated to your music is considered to as dance/choreography…
I’d love to hear your thoughts on Mattie Larson! I think she’s amazing and secretly hope she’ll take the 6th spot, unlikely as it seems seeing as the 6th spot will probably go to a bars specialist. I love Nastia, Shayla and Alicia’s gymnastics - they’re a joy to watch as well. I can’t say I’m a fan of Shawn’s or Chellsie’s gymnastics, sure they throw big skills, but imho their style lacks artistry.
So, selection camp will definitely be interesting, can’t wait to see who Marta will pick!
Also, keep up the great work, and please vlog more on gymnastics!

I used to love watching the gymnastics, the guys were always the best to watch. I have you seen their bodies. Damn. I had such a crush on Blaine Wilson. Because of mens gymnastics I had developed and obsession for mens arms. I also enjoyed the diving (Greg will always be the best to me), swimming, and some of the track and field events.
